Our Goals

The Secaucus Coalition partners with community leaders to achieve the following goals:

  • Decrease the number of youth who are using alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
  • Increase youth perception of personal harms caused by alcohol, tobacco and other drugs
  • Collaborate with community partners to address underage drinking, and substance abuse.
  • Conduct assessments to examine substance abuse issues present in our community.

Our History

Prevention has been a priority for Secaucus for many years. The Secaucus Municipal Alliance was started in 1989 thanks to a grant from the Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse  (GCADA) in an effort to reduce underage drinking issues in the community of Secaucus. Through the efforts of the Secaucus Municipal Alliance, the Town of Secaucus was awarded the Drug-Free Communities Support Grant provided by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in 2014. This grant provides resources to better assess and respond to the needs of our community.

The Town of Secaucus is proud to recognize the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration for awarding our community a generous grant to help support our substance abuse prevention efforts for adolescents.

The Drug Free Communities Support Grant is an initiative of SAMHSA and the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), to support coalitions in strengthening collaboration among community partners and to support community efforts to prevent and reduce substance use among youth.

GCADA funds helped our Coalition begin its work. This grant continues to provide funding to support drug education and training programs for adolescents.

The Town of Secaucus has been a longtime supporter and a key partner of substance abuse prevention efforts. For several years, Secaucus has provided supplies and services  to support the state grant (GCADA), and more  recently the Town has been an active supporter of the Drug Free Communities Grant. We are fortunate to have tremendous support from our local government and Mayor.

The Secaucus Police Department has been a long-time partner of the Secaucus Municipal Alliance in educating our community’s youth through the DARE Program. Recently the program Law Enforcement Against Drugs (L.E.A.D.) has been implemented to teach students about the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse.

The SPD are also actively involved in community wide events and efforts to help maintain a safe and healthy environment for families in Secaucus.
